• I am qualified to treat individuals with all mental health disorders throughout the lifespan. The majority of my experience, and where my passion lies, is in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder in adults.

  • Our initial appointment will be about 60 minutes long. This gives us time to get to know each other, and I’ll ask a lot of questions about your personal history (family, health, previous psychiatric experiences, etc.) and what your goals for treatment are.

Follow up appointments are generally 30 minutes long. During these appointments we review your current treatment and make adjustments as necessary.

  • How long someone needs to be on medication is dependent on that individual, the course of their disease, and their personal preferences. In general, it is recommended that patients who are depressed or struggling with an anxiety disorder stay on medications for at least 6 additional months after feeling well. This can help reduce the chance of recurrent episodes. Sometimes people require medications for most of their life, sometimes multiple times throughout their life, and sometimes only for a brief period.

  • Do you provide therapy?

Providing supportive counseling to patients is a part of my practice as a nurse practitioner. I believe the therapeutic relationship I develop with clients is critically important to their success.

I am not a certified social worker or therapist. In addition to working with me, I strongly encourage all of my clients to have a dedicated therapist, and I enjoy working in collaboration with them (with permission!) to provide the most holistic care for my clients.

  • No, I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. In Iowa, nurse practitioners have full practice authority, meaning we can independently evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medications for all patients within our scope of practice. My scope of practice is psychiatry.

I have over ten years of experience in health care and have been practicing as a nurse since 2015. I became certified as a nurse practitioner in 2021 after completing my schooling at Allen College in Waterloo, Iowa, with a Master of Science in Nursing Practice. I am certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and am to practice by the State of Iowa’s Board of Nursing.
