what to expect when working with us
A Clear, Step-by-Step Path Toward Feeling Better
Schedule Your First AppointmentBegin by scheduling your consultation through the online booking link. This first appointment includes a detailed review of your history, current symptoms, medical background, and functional challenges to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Together, we’ll develop a personalized treatment plan, which may include medication and supportive strategies.
Personalized Treatment & Follow-UpIf medication is recommended, we’ll review options carefully and discuss benefits, side effects, and monitoring. Follow-up appointments are structured and collaborative, focusing on measurable symptom improvement and thoughtful adjustments as needed. Over time, our goal is steady progress—helping you feel more focused, stable, and confident in your daily life.
Insurance
We are in-network with BCBS, UMR, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), Cigna, Medica, and Oscar. We recommend contacting your insurance provider directly to confirm your specific mental health benefits, coverage details, and any potential out-of-pocket costs prior to your first appointment. Please note we are not currently in network with Medicare or Medicaid.
If we are out-of-network with your plan, we are happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
Our Rates
We also accept self-pay. These rates apply if you choose not to use insurance or if you plan to submit out-of-network claims for possible reimbursement. Payment is due at the time of service. If you intend to use out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill for you to submit directly to your insurance company. Reimbursement amounts vary by plan, so we recommend confirming your out-of-network coverage and deductible details in advance.

FAQ
-
I am qualified to treat individuals with all mental health disorders throughout the lifespan. The majority of my experience, and where my passion lies, is in treating mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder in adults.
-
Our initial appointment will be about 60 minutes long. This gives us time to get to know each other, and I’ll ask a lot of questions about your personal history (family, health, previous psychiatric experiences, etc.) and what your goals for treatment are.
Follow up appointments are generally 30 minutes long. During these appointments we review your current treatment and make adjustments as necessary.
-
How long someone needs to be on medication is dependent on that individual, the course of their disease, and their personal preferences. In general, it is recommended that patients who are depressed or struggling with an anxiety disorder stay on medications for at least 6 additional months after feeling well. This can help reduce the chance of recurrent episodes. Sometimes people require medications for most of their life, sometimes multiple times throughout their life, and sometimes only for a brief period.

We accept insurance and self-pay (credit card). For clients using insurance, copays are due at the time of service.
All clients are required to keep an active credit card on file, which will be charged for any copays, deductibles, coinsurance, or outstanding patient responsibility.

Providing supportive counseling to patients is a part of my practice as a nurse practitioner. I believe the therapeutic relationship I develop with clients is critically important to their success.
I am not a certified social worker or therapist. In addition to working with me, I strongly encourage all of my clients to have a dedicated therapist, and I enjoy working in collaboration with them (with permission!) to provide the most holistic care for my clients.

No, I am a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. In Iowa, nurse practitioners have full practice authority, meaning we can independently evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe medications for all patients within our scope of practice. My scope of practice is psychiatry.

My office is conveniently located in downtown Iowa City at 250 E Court Street (directly across from the Hyatt).
I also offer telehealth visits utilizing a secure video platform that is easy to access regardless of your physical location. However, clients must be in Iowa at the time of their virtual appointment.
